Photomacrography

Nature photography

Photomacrography in the Amazonas Peru-Brasil border, Madre de Dios Tambopata region.

When I travel to the Selva de la Amazonas in Sudamerica, I carry my basic waterproof travelling backpack to carry my basic photography system:

  • Flash system: handheld flashlight, lightweight speedlights (2), circular reflector, camera diffuser over lens and flash). This is sufficient for any trans-illumination, tent, texture lighting.
  • ND Filters
  • Cameras (2). I shoot macro on Canon and long shots with Sony. 200mm macro for working distance- I also use it for portraits. The Sony is primarily for “street photography”. My old Sony &7III has a quick eye detection focus system which is a must in portraiture. I also use this camera with a zoom lens in case I’m in plane or high altitude,
  • Extension tubes and macro bellows extension. I normally perform measurements and magnification calculations in the field and take notes.
  • Accessories (cell phone, metric ruler, flashlights, compass, food & water, loupe, binoculars, lens cleaners, and a mini tool kit).
  • Clothing. 1-2 layers full body. Pour repellent and wear a hat, cooling neck gaiter gloves and comfortable waterproof boots. I wear a flashlight at night for guidance and carry a good one in my bag for identification and lighting as well.
